Winter Reunion Planned
November 2007 |
|
|
Dear Forest Lake Families:
Mark
your calendars for Saturday, January 12th as the day of
the Forest Lake Camp Winter Reunion.
The
event will be held in White Plains, New York. All
members of the extended FLC family are invited to
attend- current and former campers, counselors and
staff.
The
reunion will begin at 1pm with a buffet lunch followed
by a program of presentations and entertainment. There
will be displays of recent camp pictures as well as
archival pictures for the 'ol timers. The festivities
will conclude around 3pm.
Parents
are welcome to join in and we encourage you to bring
along friends who would like to learn more about Forest
Lake.
An
invitation will be sent out in December to which you can
RSVP for reservations.
By now all 2007
camp families should have received an invitation letter for
re-enrollment for 2008. As a reminder, the '08 enrollment
application can be downloaded from the camp website at
www.forestlakecamp.com
We know
that John Young received it. John was the first veteran
camper to be enrolled for next summer. John must be
eager to resume his position as staff waiter par
excellence.
The
first new camper to sign on for 2008 is Paul Legrez
whose father, Marc Legrez, was a counselor in the 1970's
+ 1980's. Paul's uncle, Didier Legrez, and his cousin,
Mathieu Legrez are both FLC Alumni.
Be sure
to reserve for the Great 08'.
When our
veteran campers and counselors return to Forest Lake in 2008,
they will notice several attractive improvements around camp.
Among these will be a major change at the amphitheatre.
Excavation has been started to expand and refine the audience
seating. The grassy, slippery slope has been terraced and will
have attractive retaining walls to provide level, unobstructed
seating. Don't worry- the camp does not plan to charge admission
to our shows and concerts and the dress code remains "casual".
Another
fall project has been the continued improvements of the
camp's network of trails. Forest Lake hosted two high
school cross country running meets and received great
reviews for its course layout. If you plan to run for
your school in the fall, Forest Lake can provide you
with an outstanding training facility.

Harold Confer,
the founder of Forest Lake Camp, was the captain of the
Springfield College gymnastics team. "Coach" Confer could do a
one arm chin-up- an amazing feat (not feet).
Batman-
the ubiquitous FLC phantom- has been played by four
former counselors: Alan Shaler, Don Craven, Danny Combs
and Chuck Specter.
Three
FLC connected actors have appeared on episodes of "Law
and Order". David Jung, (a counselor), Emmy Rossum (a
camper) and Ellen Foley (Tim and Henry Bernstein's mom).
Another
distinguished group of Forest Lake connected recording
artists have recent releases. Check them out:

In the late
afternoon on a beautiful autumn day, a lone hiker appeared on
the Forest Lake campus. It was Quinn Casal who made FLC one of
his stops along the way of his month long trek through the
Adirondacks. Quinn spent the night in cabin 13 and pushed off
the next day. Apparently, Quinn has never heard "The Bones of
Cabin 13".
On an
equally beautful autumn day, two other alumni appeared
on campus. Al Shaler and Warren "Leuty" Leuteritz
visited Forest Lake for a walk down memory lane. Here at
Forest Lake a walk down memory lane involves more up
than down, but Al and Leuty cruised the hills and did
not need the oxygen offered to them.
They
both look terrific. Al is retired and spends half the
year here in the Adirondacks (Kelm Lake) and half the
year in Easthampton, MA. Leuty is also retired and
resides in New Hampshire. Both guys have numerous
grandchildren.
We hope
you enjoy your holidays and keep us informed of any new
information.
Sincerely,
Gary Confer
